Rate

What is a rate in a golf club context?

A rate is the specific price assigned to a bookable service — a tee time, a lesson, a buggy rental — for a given customer profile, date, and channel. Far from being a single number, most clubs run dozens or even hundreds of active rates simultaneously: a member rate, a visitor rate, a twilight rate, a junior rate, a corporate rate, and rates specific to each Tour Operator partnership, all coexisting on the same Tee Sheet at the same time.

How rates are typically structured

  • By customer segment: Member, guest, junior, senior, corporate.
  • By time of day: peak, off-peak, or twilight rates that reflect lower demand outside prime hours.
  • By season: high-season and low-season pricing that reflects annual demand cycles.
  • By channel: a rate sold directly online may differ from one contracted with an OTA or tour operator.

Why rate management is more complex than it looks

The real challenge isn’t defining a rate — it’s making sure the correct rate is applied automatically, every time, to every booking, without staff having to manually check who’s booking and adjust the price by hand. A member booked at the wrong rate is both a lost-revenue problem and, just as often, a trust problem when it’s the other way around and they’re overcharged. Golfmanager’s rate engine, tightly connected to the CRM and Membership records, applies the correct rate automatically based on who is logged in or who staff select at the point of booking, removing this as a manual decision entirely.

Rates and dynamic pricing

Static rates and Dynamic Pricing aren’t mutually exclusive — most clubs run a hybrid model where member and contracted rates stay fixed, while the general public green fee rate fluctuates dynamically within a defined band, giving the club both pricing stability where it matters and flexibility where it drives revenue.

Practical example

A club has five active rates for a single Saturday morning tee time: a fixed member rate, a discounted junior rate, a public rate that moves with dynamic pricing, a rate contracted with a local tour operator, and a promotional rate for a specific email campaign. All five can be sold from the same available tee time slot, with the system automatically applying whichever rate matches the booking context.

FAQs

Can a customer see more than one rate for the same slot? Not usually — the system typically shows the customer only the single rate that applies to their profile, rather than exposing every rate configured internally.

Do rates need to be updated manually every season? They can be scheduled in advance, so seasonal rate changes take effect automatically on the configured date rather than requiring a manual switch.
